Disturbances sort of carry a negative connotation to them, but many thinkers have spoken about their possible benefits to self-organizing systems, by means of triggering such systems to find new patterns of dynamic equilibrium, which can be better than previous states. I’m wondering what could be good examples of such phenomena, where disturbance has proven to be beneficial to a system as a whole.
